CVE-2025-38729 is an out-of-bounds memory-access vulnerability in the Linux kernel ALSA USB-audio subsystem. UAC3 power-domain descriptors have a variable bLength field that was not sufficiently validated before descriptor processing. A malicious USB audio firmware device can supply a malformed descriptor length, resulting in unexpected out-of-bounds accesses in kernel memory. The upstream correction validates UAC3 power-domain descriptors and their variable bLength values before use.
