CVE-2025-38730 is an io_uring networking flaw in the Linux kernel's handling of ring-provided buffers during partial receive-operation retries. Ring-provided buffers are valid only in the execution context in which they are acquired, and io_uring ordinarily invalidates them before a retry. In affected networking paths, a partial operation could instead retain the buffer when MSG_WAITALL is specified or when a stream socket processes insufficient data. The retained buffer could span subsequent execution contexts, despite invalidation semantics. If the buffer ring is unregistered before retry, the retained buffer-list reference can become invalid. If sockets share a buffer group, concurrent receives can consume the same userspace buffer. The fix commits partial buffers rather than allowing partial retries to pin ring-provided buffers across executions.
