CVE-2025-39718 affects the Linux kernel's guest-side virtio-vsock receive path. Before calling virtio_vsock_skb_rx_put(), the implementation validates the virtqueue buffer size but not the length advertised in the packet header. virtio_vsock_skb_rx_put() subsequently passes that unvalidated length to skb_put(), potentially causing a socket-buffer (SKB) overflow when the host supplies a malformed packet. The fix validates the advertised packet-header length before invoking virtio_vsock_skb_rx_put().

A Linux kernel virtio-vsock vulnerability caused by insufficient validation of the length advertised in received packet headers. A malformed length can cause a socket-buffer overflow in the guest. The reference assigns a CVSS v3 score of 5.5, with high availability impact and no confidentiality or integrity impact. It recommends updating affected Google COS kernel packages to version 19216.0.53 or later.
A Linux kernel virtio/vsock vulnerability caused by insufficient validation of the packet-header length when receiving packets in a guest. An invalid length can cause a socket-buffer overflow, potentially affecting availability. The plugin rates it Medium, with a CVSS v3 base score of 5.5, and recommends updating the linux package and related packages to version 6.1.153-1 or later.
