CVE-2025-40240 is a NULL-pointer dereference vulnerability in the Linux kernel Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP) subsystem. SCTP processing dereferences the chunk->skb pointer in a code path in which it can be NULL when a chunk data buffer is missing. The corrective change tests frag_list immediately before replacing chunk->skb, rather than testing the pointer in the erroneous condition.
