CVE-2025-40269 is an out-of-bounds write condition in the Linux kernel ALSA USB-audio driver's PCM transfer path. USB-audio PCM data is sent through USB URB packet buffers whose sizes are calculated dynamically. The vulnerable parameter setup derived packet sizes from the audio rate and packets-per-second value without ensuring that the result did not exceed the endpoint's descriptor-constrained maximum packet size, including wMaxPacketSize. A malformed or unusual USB audio descriptor could therefore cause a calculated transfer size larger than the allocated packet buffer. The fix validates the computed packet size against maxpacksize during parameter setup and rejects invalid configurations with -EINVAL.
