CVE-2025-40294 is a bounds-checking vulnerability in the Linux kernel Bluetooth management function parse_adv_monitor_pattern(). The function permits pattern lengths up to HCI_MAX_EXT_AD_LENGTH (251 bytes), although the mgmt_adv_pattern structure's value array contains only 31 bytes. A userspace-supplied pattern length exceeding 31 bytes can therefore cause out-of-bounds access during copying. The vulnerability is also characterized as an out-of-bounds write that can cause information disclosure and denial of service. The fix restores the offset and length limits to HCI_MAX_AD_LENGTH without changing the userspace-visible structure size.
