CVE-2025-40578 is an out-of-bounds read in the PROFINET Discovery and basic Configuration Protocol (DCP) daemon on Siemens SCALANCE LPE9403 industrial Local Processing Engine devices. The daemon does not correctly handle multiple incoming PROFINET packets received in rapid succession. An unauthenticated attacker can submit crafted Layer 2 DCP traffic that causes the dcpd process to crash. The issue affects SCALANCE LPE9403 firmware through V4.0 HF0; Siemens has corrected it in later firmware.

An out-of-bounds-read vulnerability in the PROFINET DCP service (dcpd.bin) of Siemens SCALANCE LPE9403 firmware through V4.0 HF0. Specially crafted Ethernet packets from an unauthenticated attacker on an adjacent Layer-2 network can crash the daemon, potentially making the device appear unreachable to SCADA systems or preventing IP configuration during deployment.
