CVE-2025-40775 is a remotely triggerable denial-of-service vulnerability in ISC BIND 9 TSIG processing. BIND validates every incoming DNS message containing a Transaction Signature (TSIG). An invalid value in the TSIG algorithm field causes an assertion failure rather than graceful rejection of the message, aborting the named process. The issue affects BIND 9.20.0 through 9.20.8 and 9.21.0 through 9.21.7.

This repository demonstrates a multi-phase exploit chain targeting BIND DNS (CVE-2025-40775) to achieve a denial-of-service (DoS), disrupt secret rotation for non-human identities (NHIs), and ultimately bypass zero-trust authentication controls in a cloud-native environment. The structure includes Python scripts for each attack phase, Dockerfiles and configuration for a vulnerable BIND server, mock secrets manager, and protected API service. The main exploit (dns_exploit.py) crafts and sends a malformed DNS packet with an invalid TSIG algorithm name to the BIND server, causing it to crash. This outage prevents the NHI client from rotating secrets, forcing it to fall back to a static credential (STATIC_BREAK_GLASS_KEY_XYZABC), which is then used to access the protected API endpoint (bypass_demo.py), bypassing zero-trust policies. The repository is well-documented, with a clear attack chain, lab setup instructions, and recommendations for mitigation. The exploit is operational, providing a working end-to-end demonstration of the vulnerability and its impact on modern security architectures.
