CVE-2025-49091 is an OS command injection vulnerability in KDE Konsole before version 25.04.2. Konsole supports URL scheme handlers including SSH, Telnet, and Rlogin URLs. When the corresponding client binary is unavailable, a URL-handling code path falls back to invoking /bin/bash with the supplied URL as arguments. A specially crafted URL can therefore cause arbitrary code execution in the context of the logged-in user when opened by Konsole.

This repository is a small Python proof-of-concept exploit for CVE-2025-49091 consisting of one exploit script and a README. The main file, CVE-2025-49091.py, implements a minimal XMPP client using slixmpp. It authenticates to an XMPP server with attacker-provided credentials, registers avatar-related XMPP plugins, publishes attacker-controlled avatar data through XEP-0084 and XEP-0153 mechanisms, and then sends a crafted chat message to a target JID. The exploit’s core capability is delivery of a malicious, obfuscated telnet-style link that references the victim’s Gajim avatar cache path (.cache/gajim/avatars) and an attacker-controlled avatar identifier. The avatar content itself is not an image; it is a shell payload embedded as avatar data. The payload is designed to execute on the victim side, establish a reverse shell to an attacker-specified IP and port, open a decoy URL via xdg-open, and kill a Konsole parent process to hide evidence or disrupt the visible terminal. Repository structure is minimal and focused: README.md provides a short description and usage note, while CVE-2025-49091.py contains all exploit logic, argument parsing, XMPP session handling, avatar publication, link obfuscation, and payload generation. This is a real exploit PoC rather than a scanner or detector. It is operational because it includes a working payload with attacker-controlled network parameters, but it is not part of a larger exploitation framework.
