CVE-2025-52565 is a container escape vulnerability in runc, the OCI reference runtime, affecting versions 1.0.0-rc3 through 1.2.7, 1.3.0-rc.1 through 1.3.2, and 1.4.0-rc.1 through 1.4.0-rc.2. The flaw is caused by insufficient validation during the bind-mount of the container console device from /dev/pts/$n to /dev/console during container initialization. An attacker can exploit races or symlink redirection so that runc bind-mounts an unintended target onto a path writable from inside the container, including paths that would normally later be masked or made read-only. Because this mount occurs after pivot_root(2) but before maskedPaths and readonlyPaths protections are applied, the attacker can bypass intended filesystem restrictions inside the container. The issue is conceptually similar to CVE-2025-31133 but specifically targets console setup for containers that allocate a console.
