CVE-2025-5288 is a privilege escalation vulnerability in the WordPress plugin REST API | Custom API Generator For Cross Platform And Import Export In WP. Affected versions are 1.0.0 through 2.0.3. The issue is caused by a missing capability check in the process_handler() function. Because the function does not properly verify that the caller is authorized to perform the import operation, an unauthenticated attacker can submit a POST request containing an arbitrary import_api URL and import specially crafted JSON. By controlling the imported data, the attacker can cause the plugin to create a new user account with full Administrator privileges.

This repository contains a Python exploit script (CVE-2025-5288.py) targeting a privilege escalation vulnerability (CVE-2025-5288) in the 'REST API | Custom API Generator For Cross Platform And Import Export In WP' WordPress plugin, versions 1.0.0 to 2.0.3. The exploit works by first verifying the plugin version via the publicly accessible readme.txt file, then sending a crafted JSON payload (user.json) to the WordPress site's main endpoint. This payload creates a new administrator account due to a missing authorization check in the plugin. The script is operational, requiring the attacker to provide the target URL and a URL to a hosted JSON payload. The repository includes the main exploit script, a README with detailed usage instructions and payload format, a requirements.txt for dependencies, and a license file. The attack vector is network-based, exploiting an unauthenticated endpoint on the target WordPress site.
