CVE-2025-54550 is a low-severity arbitrary code execution vulnerability associated with the example_xcom DAG pattern documented for Apache Airflow. The documented example used an unsafe method of reading values from XCom, and this pattern could be abused through a race condition by a UI user who had permission to modify XCom entries. Under those conditions, attacker-controlled XCom data could be consumed by a worker in a way that results in execution of arbitrary code. The issue was described as affecting the documented example pattern rather than the core Airflow release itself, because example DAGs are not intended to be enabled in production. However, deployments or custom workflows that copied the documented pattern could reproduce the vulnerability.
