CVE-2025-57231 is a path traversal vulnerability in Docmost 0.21.0 avatar attachment handling. Insufficient validation or canonicalization of attacker-controlled attachment path input permits encoded parent-directory traversal sequences to escape the intended avatar-storage location and retrieve arbitrary locally readable files. The affected resource is publicly accessible, enabling unauthenticated exploitation.

This is a small standalone Python proof-of-concept repository for CVE-2025-57231, a Docmost directory-traversal flaw affecting versions 0.2.1 through 0.21.0. The repository contains an MIT license, a README with setup/use guidance, requests==2.32.5, and one executable script, exploit.py. The script accepts a Docmost base URL and optional file path, replaces path separators with %2F, then sends a GET request to the avatar attachment route with five encoded parent-directory segments. On a successful response it prints the retrieved content; HTTP errors are printed instead. It is a functional, basic arbitrary-file-read exploit rather than a scanner or detection-only utility, and includes no RCE, persistence, credential creation, or exfiltration beyond stdout output.
