CVE-2025-61591 affects Cursor, an AI-assisted code editor. In Cursor version 1.7 and earlier, when the Model Context Protocol (MCP) uses OAuth authentication with an untrusted MCP server, a malicious server can impersonate a legitimate MCP endpoint and return crafted command content during the interaction flow. This untrusted, attacker-controlled input is insufficiently neutralized before being acted on by the agent, resulting in command injection. If this condition is chained with use of an untrusted MCP service over OAuth, the injected commands may be executed on the host system, leading to potential remote code execution in the context of the logged-in user.
