CVE-2025-62725 is a path traversal vulnerability in Docker Compose affecting versions prior to v2.40.2. Docker Compose improperly trusts path information embedded in remote OCI compose artifacts. Specifically, when an OCI layer contains the annotations com.docker.compose.extends or com.docker.compose.envfile, Compose uses attacker-controlled values from com.docker.compose.file or com.docker.compose.envfile, joins them with its local cache directory, and writes files to the resulting path without adequately constraining the destination to the cache directory. Because the supplied path can contain traversal sequences, a malicious remote OCI compose artifact can cause Docker Compose to escape the intended cache location and overwrite arbitrary files on the host running docker compose. The issue can be triggered during resolution of remote OCI compose artifacts, including during ostensibly read-only operations such as docker compose config or docker compose ps.

A path traversal vulnerability in Docker Compose (versions prior to v2.40.2) related to OCI Artifact Layer Annotations, which could allow attackers to access files outside the intended directory structure.
A high-severity path traversal vulnerability in Docker Compose's OCI artifact handling allowed attackers to write arbitrary files on the host system by abusing layer annotations, potentially leading to full system compromise.
