CVE-2025-68285 is a use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel libceph client during Ceph session initialization. In the __ceph_open_session() wait path, have_mon_and_osd_map() checked monitor-map and OSD-map epoch fields without acquiring the mutex and spinlock protecting the respective map pointers. Concurrent map-update handlers can replace and free the prior monitor or OSD map, allowing the unlocked epoch check to dereference freed memory. The flaw can occur during CephFS or RBD mount-related client session establishment. The fix performs map-state checks under the appropriate locks and additionally protects related map-display and authentication-error accesses consistently.
