CVE-2025-68347 is an out-of-bounds write in the Linux kernel ALSA firewire-motu driver's hwdep_read() function. During DSP event handling, the function can copy more bytes into a user buffer than requested when the supplied buffer is smaller than the eight-byte event header. This can corrupt user-space memory and potentially cause denial of service. The issue was introduced upstream in Linux 5.16. The fix uses min_t() to clamp the copy length to the user-requested size.

A buffer overflow vulnerability in the Linux kernel's ALSA firewire-motu DSP event handling allows hwdep_read() to copy more bytes into a user buffer than requested when the buffer is smaller than the eight-byte event header. The fix clamps the copy size using min_t(). The reference assigns a CVSS v3 base score of 7.8 and recommends updating Echo linux packages to version 6.1.162-1 or later.
