CVE-2025-68349 is a NULL pointer dereference vulnerability in the Linux kernel NFSv4/pNFS subsystem. When pnfs_mark_layout_stateid_invalid() invalidates a layout state ID, it did not clear the NFS_INO_LAYOUTCOMMIT inode flag. Consequently, a later layout commit path may treat a layout commit as pending after the layout has been released. pnfs_set_layoutcommit() depends on the layout-segment reference count to preserve the layout lifetime; retaining the flag can therefore cause pnfs_layoutcommit_inode() to reference a null layout during write_inode() through nfs4_write_inode(). The issue was introduced in Linux kernel 4.10 and affects fs/nfs/pnfs.c.
