CVE-2025-68349 is a NULL pointer dereference vulnerability in Linux kernel NFSv4/pNFS layout-commit handling. When pnfs_mark_layout_stateid_invalid invalidates a layout state ID without clearing NFS_INO_LAYOUTCOMMIT, subsequent inode writeback can attempt to reference a NULL layout through write_inode → nfs4_write_inode → pnfs_layoutcommit_inode. The pnfs_set_layoutcommit function relies on the layout-segment reference count to retain the layout, but a stale layout-commit flag can permit processing after the layout is no longer available. This can cause a kernel crash and denial of service.
