CVE-2025-71229 is a Linux kernel flaw in the Realtek rtw88 Wi-Fi driver, in rtw_core_enable_beacon() in drivers/net/wireless/realtek/rtw88/main.c. The vulnerable code performs a 4-byte read from an address that is not 4-byte aligned. On architectures that fault on unaligned access, this causes an alignment fault during beacon-enable handling, with the provided trace showing execution through rtw_pci_read32() and subsequent kernel oops/crash behavior. The upstream fix changes the implementation to use 1-byte reads and writes instead of the unaligned 32-bit access.
