CVE-2025-71232 is a flaw in the Linux kernel's SCSI qla2xxx driver. The issue is described upstream as "scsi: qla2xxx: Free sp in error path to fix system crash." In an error path, an sp structure was not freed correctly, leaving objects allocated in the qla2xxx_srbs slab cache. During repeated module load/unload testing, this leaked object state caused warnings and BUG conditions during qla2x00_module_exit(), including kmem_cache_destroy being invoked while qla2xxx_srbs still contained live objects. The observed failure manifested during module removal via rmmod and could lead to a kernel crash or panic.
