CVE-2025-71233 is a race condition in the Linux kernel PCI endpoint configfs implementation. PCI endpoint function sub-groups were created asynchronously by delayed work using configfs_register_group(). If the corresponding driver directory is removed before that work executes, the delayed-work handler can dereference a NULL pointer during subgroup registration, causing a kernel crash. The upstream fix replaces the delayed-work-based registration with configfs_add_default_group(), making subgroup creation synchronous and eliminating the unsafe lifetime race.
