CVE-2025-71237 is an integer-underflow flaw in the Linux kernel nilfs2 filesystem's FITRIM discard-range handling. When calculating the number of blocks to discard, a sufficiently small ending block can cause the calculation to underflow. The result is stored in the unsigned 64-bit sector_t type, converting a negative value into an extremely large positive block count. The resulting oversized discard request can cause prolonged processing in the block layer while nilfs2 retains the ns_segctor_sem lock. The fix detects the invalid small range, performs no trimming, and reports a discarded length of zero.
