CVE-2025-71257 is an authentication bypass vulnerability affecting BMC FootPrints ITSM versions 20.20.02 through 20.24.01.001. The issue is caused by improper enforcement of security filters on restricted REST API endpoints and servlets, allowing unauthenticated remote attackers to bypass normal access-control checks. Supporting research indicates the bypass can be reached via the /passwordreset/request/ path, which returns a guest-issued SEC_TOKEN cookie to unauthenticated users. Presenting that SEC_TOKEN satisfies the application’s authentication checks for otherwise restricted functionality, enabling access to protected application components such as /aspnetconfig and other restricted endpoints without valid user credentials.
