CVE-2025-71392 is a second-order SurrealQL injection vulnerability in SurrealDB's command-line backup export workflow. SurrealDB versions before 2.0.5, versions 2.1.x before 2.1.5, and versions 2.2.x before 2.2.2 do not properly escape attacker-controlled table and field names when serializing them into an export. An authenticated System User assigned the OWNER or EDITOR role can create schema objects whose identifiers contain SurrealQL syntax. The malicious syntax is retained in the exported backup and executes when that backup is subsequently imported, rather than being handled exclusively as an identifier. Applications permitting users to define custom tables or fields can likewise be exposed to second-order SurrealQL injection despite parameterizing ordinary query values.

A critical SurrealQL injection vulnerability in SurrealDB's command-line export/import workflow that can allow privilege escalation and root-level takeover of the SurrealDB instance.
A critical second-order SurrealQL injection flaw in SurrealDB's CLI backup export/import workflow. Malicious table or field names embedded in an export can execute SurrealQL upon import, enabling privilege escalation up to root-level takeover of the SurrealDB instance and potential injection against co-tenanted applications sharing the backend.
