CVE-2025-8714 is an untrusted-data-inclusion vulnerability in PostgreSQL backup and restore tooling. A malicious superuser on an origin PostgreSQL server can embed psql meta-commands in content emitted by pg_dump. When a plain-text dump is restored with psql, the injected commands execute as the operating-system account running the restore client. pg_dumpall is also affected, as is pg_restore when it generates a plain-format dump. Affected versions are PostgreSQL releases before 17.6, 16.10, 15.14, 14.19, and 13.22.

This repository provides a proof-of-concept (PoC) exploit for CVE-2025-8714, a critical remote code execution (RCE) vulnerability in PostgreSQL versions prior to 17.6, 16.10, 15.14, 14.19, 13.22, and 18 Beta. The exploit leverages the ability of a PostgreSQL superuser to inject arbitrary shell commands into a plain-format database dump, which are then executed when the dump is restored using psql. The PoC is implemented as a Bash script (poc.sh) that automates the process: it spins up a vulnerable PostgreSQL Docker container, generates a malicious dump containing a reverse shell payload, and executes it within the container. The attacker must set their own IP address in the script and run a netcat listener on port 4444 to receive the reverse shell. The repository consists of two files: a detailed README.md (with technical explanation, usage instructions, and mitigation advice) and the poc.sh Bash script containing the exploit logic. The exploit demonstrates the risk of restoring untrusted plain-format dumps and highlights the importance of patching and using safer dump formats.
