CVE-2026-16337 is an improper authorization vulnerability in dotCMS affecting versions 21.02 through 26.06.22-03 on all platforms. The flaw resides in the ToolGroupResource and RoleAjax REST/DWR endpoints, where authorization checks are insufficient to prevent a low-privileged authenticated backend user from modifying their effective privileges. An attacker with backend access can self-assign the administrative layout and grant themselves the CMS Administrator role. After obtaining elevated privileges, the attacker can upload a crafted OSGi bundle and trigger arbitrary shell command execution through its BundleActivator, resulting in remote code execution on the underlying server.
