CVE-2026-18408 is an inclusion-of-functionality-from-an-untrusted-control-sphere vulnerability in PostgreSQL dump and restore workflows. A superuser on the origin PostgreSQL server can craft dump output that abuses psql \restrict meta-command input expansion. The \restrict and \unrestrict protections introduced for CVE-2025-8714 were incomplete because \unrestrict could itself be used to re-enable the unsafe behavior. When the resulting plain-format dump is restored with psql, attacker-controlled content can execute as the client operating-system account running psql. pg_dumpall is also affected, as is pg_restore when it is used to generate plain-format dump output. Affected versions are PostgreSQL releases before 18.6, 17.11, 16.15, 15.19, and 14.24.
