REDAXO (PHP CMS) Backup addon contains a path traversal flaw in its file export functionality prior to REDAXO 5.20.2. Authenticated users with Backup permissions can control the EXPDIR POST parameter, which is not validated against the UI-generated allowlist of permitted export directories. By supplying relative paths containing ../ sequences (or absolute paths within the document root), an attacker can cause the export process to include arbitrary readable files under the webroot in the generated .tar.gz archive, enabling unauthorized file disclosure (e.g., configuration files).

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.
config.yml containing database credentials and backend user password hashes. This can enable follow-on compromise such as database takeover and broader application compromise when chained with other weaknesses. If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.
EXPDIR values containing traversal indicators like ../ or unexpected absolute paths. Temporarily disable/remove the Backup addon export feature until patched. Apply least-privilege filesystem permissions to reduce the set of readable sensitive files by the web server/PHP process.Patch, then assume compromise.
EXPDIR is restricted to the intended allowlisted directories and enforce canonical-path checks (e.g., resolve/normalize paths and verify they remain within an approved base directory) before creating the backup archive. No valid public exploits.
