CVE-2026-23005 affects Linux kernel x86 FPU state handling for KVM guests. Guest XSAVE state can retain XSTATE_BV bits for state components disabled by the corresponding Extended Feature Disable (XFD) bits. The inconsistency can be introduced through KVM_SET_XSAVE or arise during guest XFD updates under particular interrupt or preemption conditions. Because the kernel executes XRSTOR with the guest's XFD configuration, restoring a component with both XSTATE_BV[i]=1 and XFD[i]=1 triggers a device-not-available exception (#NM) and can panic the host kernel. The fix clears XSTATE_BV bits for XFD-disabled components when loading guest XSAVE state and updating guest XFD.

A Linux kernel x86 FPU/KVM state-handling vulnerability can cause a host kernel panic and denial of service. Guest XFD updates or userspace-supplied XSAVE state can leave XSTATE_BV indicating state for XFD-disabled features, causing XRSTOR to raise a device-not-available exception. The plugin assigns a CVSS v3 score of 5.5, with local access, low privileges, and high availability impact.
A Linux kernel x86 FPU/KVM vulnerability involving inconsistent guest XSAVE state and Extended Feature Disable (XFD) settings. A guest XFD update combined with an interrupt or preemption, or userspace supplying inconsistent state through KVM_SET_XSAVE, can trigger a device-not-available exception during state restoration and panic the host kernel, causing denial of service. The plugin reports a CVSS v3 base score of 5.5, with local access and low privileges required. The fix clears XSTATE_BV bits for XFD-disabled features. The prescribed update is sys-kernel/csql-kernel-6_1 and related packages version 18613.534.2 or later.
