CVE-2026-23171 is a use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel bonding subsystem. The flaw occurs when enslaving a new slave interface fails after the bonding code has already updated the slave array to include the new slave. Because the newly added slave can be selected for transmit operations immediately, the networking stack may dereference that slave after the enslave error-cleanup path has freed its associated memory. Crash traces show the fault manifesting during transmit-path processing, including netdev_core_pick_tx and bond_start_xmit. The upstream fix changes the operation ordering so the slave array is updated only after XDP setup succeeds, at a point where further enslave failures are not expected.
