CVE-2026-23557 is a denial-of-service vulnerability in Xen's C implementation of xenstored, tracked as XSA-484. Any guest can trigger a crash in xenstored by issuing an XS_RESET_WATCHES command within a transaction, causing an internal assert() to fire. Because xenstored is normally built without NDEBUG defined, including in default release builds, the assertion is active on affected systems and terminates the service. The issue affects Xen systems from version 4.2 onward when using the C variant of xenstored or xenstore-stubdom built without NDEBUG. Systems using oxenstored are not affected, and builds with NDEBUG defined are not vulnerable to the crash condition.
