CVE-2026-24002 (“Cellbreak”) is a critical sandbox-escape vulnerability in Grist/Grist-Core’s Python formula execution when configured to run untrusted spreadsheet formulas using Pyodide on Node.js (i.e., GRIST_SANDBOX_FLAVOR=pyodide). In this configuration, Pyodide-on-Node does not provide an effective sandbox boundary, and Grist’s blocklist-style restrictions can be bypassed, allowing malicious formulas to reach dangerous capabilities (e.g., access to Python built-ins/modules such as os, use of ctypes to invoke system(), and/or leveraging Emscripten-exposed functions to execute host-runtime JavaScript). As a result, opening a malicious document can lead to execution of arbitrary processes on the server hosting Grist. The issue is addressed in Grist 1.7.9+ by running Pyodide under the Deno runtime (and can be bypassed if GRIST_PYODIDE_SKIP_DENO=1 per the provided content).

GRIST_SANDBOX_FLAVOR=gvisor). Additionally, avoid enabling/using any configuration that forces Pyodide to run under Node (e.g., do not set GRIST_PYODIDE_SKIP_DENO=1 where untrusted formulas may be present).Patch, then assume compromise.
GRIST_PYODIDE_SKIP_DENO is not set to 1 in environments that may process untrusted or semi-trusted documents/formulas.No public exploits tracked yet. Mallory keeps watching.

Grist-Core RCE via malicious spreadsheet formulas (Cellbreak).
A critical Grist-Core vulnerability (Pyodide sandbox escape) where a malicious spreadsheet formula can lead to OS command execution / RCE.
A critical Pyodide sandbox escape in Grist-Core’s Python formula execution that can be triggered via malicious spreadsheet formulas, enabling remote code execution and access to host resources (filesystem/secrets).
A critical sandbox-escape leading to remote code execution in Grist-Core’s spreadsheet formula engine (Pyodide/WebAssembly-based Python). Malicious formulas can break out of the Pyodide isolation and execute OS commands and/or JavaScript in the host context, enabling full host compromise in SaaS or self-hosted deployments.
