CVE-2026-25541 is an integer overflow vulnerability in the Rust bytes library, affecting versions 1.2.1 through versions before 1.11.1. In the unique reclaim path of BytesMut::reserve, the capacity comparison uses an unchecked addition of new_cap and offset. If this addition overflows usize in a release build, the comparison can incorrectly succeed and set the tracked capacity above the actual allocation size. Subsequent APIs, including spare_capacity_mut(), can trust the corrupted capacity and create out-of-bounds slices, resulting in undefined behavior, potential memory corruption, and crashes. Debug builds panic on the overflow rather than wrapping.
