Requests versions before 2.33.0 contain an insecure temporary-file handling vulnerability in requests.utils.extract_zipped_paths(). The utility extracts ZIP archive members into the system temporary directory using predictable filenames and reuses an existing target file without validating it. A local attacker able to write to that directory can pre-create malicious content that is loaded instead of the legitimate extracted file. Only applications that call extract_zipped_paths() directly are affected; standard Requests usage is unaffected.

This repository is a standalone local proof of concept for the claimed CVE-2026-25645 insecure temporary-file reuse condition in Python Requests. Its primary executable, poc.py, pre-creates /tmp/cacert.pem with marker content, constructs a local ZIP archive with a different embedded cacert.pem, and calls requests.utils.extract_zipped_paths(). It then modifies requests.adapters.DEFAULT_CA_BUNDLE_PATH and invokes HTTPAdapter.cert_verify() against a dummy connection object to demonstrate that the adapter chooses the attacker-precreated temporary file as its CA bundle. No live HTTP/TLS connection, listener, reverse shell, persistence, or remote target scanning is implemented. The repository also contains a Dockerfile that installs the bundled Requests 2.32.5 source archive and runs poc.py, plus a vendored Requests source distribution, metadata, tests, test certificates, and Windows Zone.Identifier artifacts. The relevant vulnerable behavior is in requests-2.32.5/requests-2.32.5/src/requests/utils.py, while adapter integration is in src/requests/adapters.py. Exploitation is local and depends on a shared writable temp directory, predictable member basename, and a victim workflow that uses the resulting path as trusted content.

A local file-substitution vulnerability in the Requests HTTP library allows an attacker with write access to the temporary directory to pre-create a malicious file that is loaded instead of the legitimate extracted file. Only applications directly calling extract_zipped_paths() are affected; standard Requests usage is unaffected. The plugin reports a CVSS v3 base score of 5.5 (Medium), with high integrity impact.
A locally exploitable, low-complexity vulnerability requiring low privileges that can cause high integrity impact in Ubuntu's python3-requests package.
A vulnerability addressed by the EulerOS SA-2026-3464 security advisory.
