CVE-2026-26157 is a path traversal/arbitrary file overwrite vulnerability in BusyBox archive extraction utilities caused by incomplete path sanitization during archive extraction. A crafted archive can contain file paths that are not sufficiently constrained to the intended extraction directory. When such an archive is processed under affected conditions, BusyBox may write extracted files outside the target directory, enabling overwrite of arbitrary files on the filesystem. Depending on what files are overwritten, this may be leveraged to modify sensitive configuration or executable files and potentially achieve code execution.
