CVE-2026-27448 affects pyOpenSSL versions 0.14.0 through versions before 26.0.0. The Context.set_tlsext_servername_callback implementation silently swallowed unhandled exceptions raised by an application-provided TLS server-name callback and allowed the TLS handshake to proceed as though the callback had succeeded. Applications that used this callback to enforce security-sensitive policy could therefore fail open when the callback raised an exception. pyOpenSSL 26.0.0 changes this behavior to invoke sys.excepthook and terminate the handshake with a fatal TLS alert.
