The flaw was addressed through improved input validation. Under certain conditions, malformed or unexpected network-originated input can cause CoreUtils to dereference a null pointer, resulting in a crash of the affected component or service. Apple describes the attack scenario as requiring an attacker to be in a privileged network position.
