CVE-2026-31488 affects the Linux kernel AMDGPU display driver. During Display Stream Compression (DSC) pre-validation, pre_validate_dsc() incorrectly clears the CRTC mode_changed flag when DSC recomputation produces no timing change, even if an unrelated mode change is pending in the same atomic Kernel Mode Setting (KMS) commit. Because dm_update_crtc_state() has already created replacement streams, clearing the flag prevents amdgpu_dm_commit_streams() from releasing the old stream and prevents amdgpu_dm_atomic_commit_tail() from acquiring a reference to the new stream. This causes a memory leak and a subsequent use-after-free in dc_stream_release() when the stream is disabled. The fix preserves and restores the earlier mode_changed value instead of unconditionally clearing it.
