CVE-2026-3219 is an archive-type interpretation vulnerability affecting pip through version 26.0.1. pip treats concatenated archives that are valid as both tar and ZIP as ZIP files, regardless of their filename or ambiguous format. This can cause installation of unintended files rather than the files expected from the archive's apparent type. The corrected behavior permits installation only when an archive identifies uniquely as either tar or ZIP and rejects archives recognized as both formats.
