CVE-2026-33174 is a denial-of-service vulnerability in Rails Active Storage affecting proxy delivery mode prior to versions 8.1.2.1, 8.0.4.1, and 7.2.3.1. When handling HTTP Range requests for blob downloads, the proxy path parses user-supplied byte ranges and loads the entire requested range into memory before sending it to the client. Large or unbounded ranges can therefore trigger memory allocation proportional to the requested content size. In practice, this behavior allows a remote client to force excessive heap allocation during blob streaming, because the application intermediates the transfer instead of redirecting the client to the storage backend. The issue was addressed by introducing configurable maximum streaming chunk sizes and limiting blob byte ranges to 100 MB by default.
