CVE-2026-33413 is an authorization bypass vulnerability in etcd affecting releases prior to 3.4.42, 3.5.28, and 3.6.9. In etcd clusters with built-in authentication enabled, certain gRPC API methods do not receive proper authentication or authorization enforcement, allowing unauthorized or insufficiently privileged clients to invoke sensitive functions. Reported exposed operations include MemberList, Alarm, Lease-related APIs, and compaction functionality. The flaw arises from missing authorization checks on specific request paths, allowing backend processing of selected maintenance and cluster-management operations under the assumption that access control had already been enforced earlier in the request pipeline. As a result, untrusted clients connected to the etcd gRPC interface can access cluster topology information, interfere with lease and TTL-backed behavior, and invoke disruptive maintenance actions.
