CVE-2026-33658 is a denial-of-service vulnerability in Rails Active Storage affecting versions prior to 8.1.2.1, 8.0.4.1, and 7.2.3.1. The flaw is in Active Storage's proxy controller, which fails to limit the number of byte ranges accepted in an HTTP Range header. By submitting a request containing thousands of small byte ranges for the same file, an attacker can trigger disproportionately high CPU consumption relative to a normal ranged or full-file request. The issue stems from insufficient restriction of multipart byte-range processing in the proxy path. The fix limits range requests to a single range.
