CVE-2026-35344 affects the dd utility in uutils coreutils. During file truncation operations, the implementation unconditionally calls Result::ok() on truncation attempts, suppressing errors instead of propagating them to the caller. Although this behavior was apparently intended to emulate GNU dd behavior for special files such as /dev/null, the uutils implementation also hides truncation failures on regular files and directories, including failures caused by conditions such as a full disk or a read-only filesystem. As a result, dd can report success even when the destination was not properly truncated and may still contain stale or unintended data.
