CVE-2026-35386 is a command execution vulnerability in OpenSSH ssh(1) before version 10.3. The flaw is caused by validation of shell metacharacters in a username supplied on the command line occurring too late. In affected configurations, an attacker-controlled username can be expanded through ssh_config processing, specifically in scenarios using a non-default Match exec configuration with the %u token, allowing shell metacharacters embedded in the username to influence command execution. The issue affects ssh client-side invocation rather than sshd server-side authentication logic.
