CVE-2026-40228 affects systemd-journald in systemd 259. When emergency-priority journal messages are forwarded to logged-in users' terminals, systemd-journald does not neutralize ANSI escape sequences or other terminal control data in the message. A local user can generate an emergency-level log entry that is rendered on other users' TTYs and, in some configurations, root-owned PTYs.
