CVE-2026-41054 is an improper-authorization vulnerability in haveged's command socket handler. In socket_handler(), haveged obtains peer credentials and identifies non-root clients, but after sending a negative acknowledgment it fails to terminate processing. Execution consequently reaches the privileged command dispatcher despite the failed root-only authorization check. Local unprivileged users can issue privileged commands to a haveged daemon running as root, including the command that directs the daemon to change its root directory. The issue affects haveged versions with the vulnerable command-socket functionality and is fixed upstream in version 1.9.21.
