CVE-2026-42248 is a Windows-specific updater vulnerability in Ollama in which downloaded update executables are not subjected to integrity or authenticity verification before being staged or executed. According to the provided content, the Windows implementation of the update verification routine unconditionally returns success, so digital signature validation, trust-chain verification, or equivalent authenticity checks are effectively skipped. As a result, if an attacker can influence the update response or supply a malicious update payload, Ollama for Windows may accept an attacker-provided PE executable as a legitimate update package. The issue is especially severe because Ollama for Windows performs silent automatic updates, allowing a malicious payload to be installed and later executed without meaningful user awareness. Tested vulnerable versions are 0.12.10 through 0.17.5; other versions may also be affected but were not tested.
