CVE-2026-42511 is a command injection vulnerability in FreeBSD's dhclient(8) DHCP client. The flaw is caused by improper neutralization of quoting syntax when BOOTP-derived fields, specifically the file field and related lease metadata such as server_name, are serialized into the local lease database. Embedded double quotes are written into the lease file without proper escaping, allowing an attacker controlling DHCP responses to inject arbitrary dhclient.conf-style directives into the stored lease content. When dhclient later reparses the poisoned lease file, such as during lease renewal, rebind, reboot, or another DHCP cycle, attacker-controlled content is passed through the privileged dhclient-script(8) execution path and evaluated as root. The issue affects supported FreeBSD releases using dhclient and enables deterministic local-network-to-root remote code execution without relying on memory corruption.

Command injection / remote code execution vulnerability in FreeBSD dhclient caused by improper escaping of attacker-controlled BOOTP fields (filename/server_name) when writing the DHCP lease file, which is later parsed and can lead to root command execution via dhclient-script.
A remote code execution vulnerability affecting FreeBSD, as described in the post title.
A remote code execution vulnerability in FreeBSD that can be triggered via malicious DHCP options.
A critical remote code execution vulnerability in FreeBSD's default IPv4 DHCP client (dhclient) caused by improper escaping of embedded double-quotes in DHCP-supplied data, allowing a local network attacker operating a rogue DHCP server to inject configuration directives and achieve root code execution.
