CVE-2026-42587 is a decompression-limit enforcement vulnerability in Netty versions before 4.1.133.Final in the 4.1.x branch and 4.2.13.Final in the 4.2.x branch. HttpContentDecompressor accepts a maxAllocation parameter intended to limit decompression buffer allocation, but silently ignores this limit for Brotli, Zstandard, and Snappy content encodings. Gzip and deflate decoding correctly enforce the limit through ZlibDecoder. DelegatingDecompressorFrameListener contains the same flaw for HTTP/2 connections. Attacker-controlled compressed HTTP content can bypass the configured allocation limit and cause unbounded memory allocation and out-of-memory denial of service.

A remotely exploitable denial-of-service vulnerability in Netty versions before 4.2.13.Final and 4.1.133.Final. Brotli, zstd, and snappy decompression bypasses the configured maxAllocation limit, allowing compressed payloads to trigger unbounded memory allocation and out-of-memory denial of service. Both HttpContentDecompressor and the HTTP/2 DelegatingDecompressorFrameListener are affected. The reported CVSS v3 base score is 7.5 (High), with no authentication or user interaction required. Fixed versions are 4.2.13.Final and 4.1.133.Final.
