CVE-2026-42946 is a vulnerability in NGINX's ngx_http_scgi_module and ngx_http_uwsgi_module that can lead to excessive memory allocation and buffer over-read during processing of upstream responses. The flaw is triggered when scgi_pass or uwsgi_pass is configured and NGINX processes a malformed or incomplete upstream status line. Available technical details indicate a state mismatch after an incomplete upstream status-line read can cause cross-buffer pointer subtraction, producing an erroneously large key length and resulting in abnormal memory handling. Under exploitable conditions, this can expose memory from the NGINX worker process or cause the worker process to terminate and restart.
